Valentines

Something I’ve been sketching concepts for a while now wasn’t really sure how I wanted to do it… still not either… I’m happy with how they’re turning out so far though.

Inspired my Miss GeeGee pang herself. http://geegpang.tumblr.com/
She went through a stage of knitting scarves 24/7 which inspired this character. :) Her scarves turned out really nice too.

James Jean

I love James Jeans sketchbook work but I hate his final outcomes/main work. I think the whole feel of them is overworked with all the colour he uses, his sketchbook work is simple but really beautiful.

Perspective practice- I thought I'd upload whilst its going okay before I ruin it as I have a tendency to do that.

Bad intentions coloured.

It was the hottest day of the year and the frog was getting too hot. He decided to go search for some water to cool down in.

He stumbled upon the lovely pond but there was only one problem...

In the pong swam a fish, this fish was even more beautiful than the pond. The frog was greedy and did not want to share the pond with anyone.
"A beautiful fisssshy like you shouldn't be hidden away in the water."
"Go and show off those lovely scales of yours, it would be a shame if no one else could see how beautiful you really are. Don't worry I will look after the pond for you until you come back."

The fish was so flattered by the frog that she leaped out of the water! This beautiful fish died all because of one selfish frog.

Artist study.

Stella Im Hultberg is an Artist whom I'm studying for a University project. As part of the project we have to re-create pieces of art from our chosen Artist.
I chose to re-create "face 16" but using watercolours and pastels instead of ink and graphite (see below).

Explorer

I’ve been experimenting a lot lately and its making me feel a lot more comfortable with my work. I’m really enjoying the freedom to try different techniques without pressure of deadlines, I feel like I’m finding my own style finally :)

ITAP 9: The experts

Alphonse Muchas (1860-1939)

Today Alphonse Mucha is recognized for the bridge he created between “high art” and commercialism a great example of this is his Box for the “Gaufrettes Vanille” Lefèvre-Utile biscuits (see below).

Mucha showed the people of his time and us that commercial work doesn’t have to be bland, it can be a powerful piece of art full of beauty and detail. He tried to integrate art into peoples everyday lives. He designed everything he possibly could: Jewelry (see below) and textiles, beautiful posters even the smaller thing which people wouldn’t normally pay attention to such as soap and toothpaste.

It wasn’t just his commercial work that shook his time but his piece “slav epic” (see below) remains to this very day one of the most powerful contributions to the Czech art history. In fact all of his work was so influential that the Art Nouveau movement is often referred to as “Le style Mucha.”

ITAP:8

"Can a photograph really capture what is going on in a persons mind?" Jillian Warian.
The answer is no, it can not that is why Wendy Ewald did a photo collection of people and got them to write down what was going on in their minds at that moment in time.

Text can change the way you look at an image and text can also completely change the meaning of the image. The image to the left is a portrait of a young boy, without the text that is all it is just a black and whit portrait. But with the writing we start to notice things; like the sadness in his eyes, the anxiety in his expression which we now know is cause by his worries of moving. Although he is looking at the camera it is almost like he is looking past it, its as though he is imaging his new city and home.

Laura Wilson took photos of homeless people but her photos weren't as strong as they could be, The people in the photos have amazing stories of how they ended up where they are in these photos. If she had included their stories the images them selves would have had so much more feeling and emotion to them.

Underbelly of Birmingham

The above is a short book I made for a university project, I finished it quite some time ago but thought I should post it up anyhoo.

Leopard shark

I went to Birmingham sea life and saw this leopard shark who was just laying on the bottom of the tank. He had his mouth open all the time it made me giggle watching him.
Done in watercolours and ball point pen.
